HeadCheck uses the best tools in psychology to promote mental health awareness, prevention, wellness, and empowerment. We believe the world would be a better place if everyone took care of their mind, and that starts with knowing how you measure up. Abolishing mental health stigma is an idea that is long overdue, so we’re doing our part. How about you?
Who We Are
Ryan Howes, Ph.D., ABPP: I’ve always wanted to bring psychological health to the masses. I was an early consumer of mental health services, attending a year of therapy after losing a parent when I was 10. It helped me cope, understand, and make meaning of the biggest tragedy of my life; I thought everyone should have the same opportunity. After starting a peer counseling program in my Oregon high school and working with youth during college, my psychological studies brought me to Pasadena where I earned a degree, opened a practice, and have served the community for nearly 20 years. My quest to spread the word about mental health has resulted in a blog for Psychology Today, a column in the Psychotherapy Networker Magazine, teaching at Fuller Graduate School of Psychology, and founding National Psychotherapy Day. HeadCheck is perhaps the best way to serve a large number of people in my own community, the San Gabriel Valley. My wife and I want to raise our two kids in a healthy environment, after all, so let’s make Pasadena the mental-healthiest place in the world! Ryan Mangum, M.A. : Everybody has days where they don’t feel their best for one reason or another. For some, the reason can be really concerning, especially if they don’t know who to go to for insight or help. It is a privilege for me to serve on the HeadCheck team and provide services that help to isolate and name the difficulties many of us live with on a day-to-day basis. I have performed cognitive, emotional, and behavioral assessments for a wide variety of people from many backgrounds and nearly all ages. It is always my goal to work together and make discoveries that lead to tangible benefits later. Nobody has to live with wondering if they may have a certain cognitive or emotional barrier slowing them down. If you’re interested in how HeadCheck can help, contact me at 626-600-1503.
